Sensory Babies:
Introduction to Sensory Integration in Infants
Sensory Integration functions begin to develop from the time of intrauterine life and continue to develop into adulthood. However, developing Sensory Processing and integration in the first two years of life is critical for all later life skills.
Sensory Processing facilitates the development of an infant's body awareness, motor skills, perceptual skills, basic perception of opportunities, concept formation, and ultimately cognition. This course will examine how Sensory Processing supports the foundations of development in infants, discuss key observations of potential challenges to the development of Sensory Integration, and provide intervention strategies for use with infants in the first two years of life. The course will utilize lectures, case studies, and video review. There will be ample time for questions from participants.
By the end of this seminar, the participant will be able to:
- Describe the development of sensory processing skills in children two years of age and younger.
- Recognize early signs of potential sensory integration challenges in infants.
- Describe intervention strategies to promote the development of sensory integration skills in infants.
